The young Welsh artist who has taken the art world by storm has unveiled her latest painting, a self-portrait.

Entitled “self-RED,” it features art prodigy Makenzy Beard wearing her red coat, obviously one of her favorite pieces of clothing.

It is the latest in a series of paintings that have left the art world looking for superlatives to describe the work of the novice painter.

The painting’s reveal follows the launch last month of the Makenzy Beard Collection – a series of limited edition prints and original paintings showcasing the 15-year-old’s astonishing artwork.

The collection, launched via Blackwater Gallery in Cardiff, included his two most renowned paintings.

When the artist unveiled a painting of his grandfather in October, it sent shock waves through social media.

The amazement at the teenager’s prodigious talent was such that he was unanimously praised for how brilliant his portrayal of her grandfather, Bernard Davies, was.

The young Welsh painter went viral earlier this year thanks to a beautiful piece of art that people couldn’t believe was painted by someone so young.

In June, Makenzy, a student at Bishopton Comprehensive School in Swansea, received thousands of applause online, after her artwork by a local farmer named John Tucker was posted on Twitter by her school.

The incredibly lifelike portrait was proclaimed to be so beautiful that it looked like a photograph, capturing the farmer in a high-visibility jacket and knitted beanie.

Makenzy’s painting was so impressive that it was selected for display at the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show in London.

The applause for his art included rave reviews such as: “At 15-year-old Makenzy Beard we may well be witnessing the emergence of Wales’ greatest living artist.

Remarkably, Makenzy, who is also a talented hockey player, representing Wales at the Under-16 level, only started painting during the lockdown as she couldn’t play sports.

Her exceptional artistic talent has not gone unnoticed in the art world, with the young painter now represented by the Blackwater Gallery.

The Cardiff Bay-based independent contemporary art gallery is focused on providing a platform for emerging artists as well as for abstract and expressive contemporary art.
