It is created by Welsh sculptor Luke Kite who was pictured with the sculpture today in his studio in Church Stretton.

Commissioned by Clive Knowles of the British Ironworks Centre, Oswestry, the complete sculpture will remain hidden until its completion.

Clive said: “It’s all part of our ongoing efforts to improve education about recycling and using our waste – rather than continuing to buy new.

“Kids have a deep, long-standing love of robots and science fiction, so this theme really appeals to kids of all ages and adults too.

“We have become much more ambitious in terms of size and really want to impress our visitors with bigger and bigger sculptures.

“We hope Luke will complete the sculpt within the next month and hopefully we can deliver a big unveiling in October.

“We are simultaneously working on a range of superheroes to complement this latest work, so it will all be part of a very dramatic exhibit.

“Of course Luke’s work is exceptional, so he will always take center stage.”

The museum will be holding contests that people can enter to guess the size and dimensions of the sculpture when completed.

“Clive makes me do all kinds of crazy things, but it’s not often I do a robot sculpture,” Luke added.

The robot is just the latest edition of the parts Luke has ordered for the Oswestry-based center.

In July this year, Luke created a striking statue of Kim Jong-un sitting astride a nuclear warhead, to campaign against nuclear war.

Luke has been a full-time sculptor for 20 years, working with steel, wood and whatever recyclable materials he finds.
