Start of the 18th Mark Rothko International Painting Symposium / Article

The Mark Rothko International Painting Symposium is the most popular event in the Rothko Center’s symposium program. Dozens of applications arrive each year, and the limited number of places forces the international jury to assess each application with extra care and attention.

This year, the jury selected Paul Lozano (Mexico), Siddharth Pathak (India), Biljana Milenkovic (Serbia), Lihi Turjeman (Israel), Amit Kalla (India), Agata Żychlińska (Poland), Agata Magdalena Sulikowska (Poland), André Rigatti (Brazil), Mika Vesalahti (Finland), Aleksejs Naumovs (Latvia) and Bence Kala (Hungary).

“All of these artists continue to develop Mark Rothko’s ideas through their individual creative lenses. Their symposium production will be presented in a group exhibition which will officially open at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 16. Before that, everyone will be able to meet the symposium participants and ask them questions during public artist presentations in the Rothko Center Video Room at 3 p.m. on September 8 and 9,” the publicity material said.
