Sculpture competition continues to benefit local youth – Oskaloosa News
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Inside the Penn Central Mall, you’ll find a curious sculpture contest. Creative masterpieces are made with materials that every child needs to go back to school.
The best part of the competition is that the young people in the area ultimately benefit from the money raised by the creative designs.
The money raised goes to the United Way of Mahaska County and its âOperation Backpackâ program.
This year, 20 teams are participating, and the teams have three days to complete their creations.
From Thursday, members of the community will then be able to vote for their favorite creations.
Registration is closed for the event, but Penn Central Mall Events Coordinator Cheyenne Jaquez encourages others to search for the event again next year.
âIt has grown a lot over the past two years,â says Jaquez. âThis year we’ve actually doubled the size since last year. It’s pretty exciting.
Upcoming events at Penn Central Mall include the popular “Brews and Broomsticks”, and the date of the event has not yet been released.
