Puneeth’s sand sculptures will draw crowds to Dasara Expo

Mysore/Mysore: Preparations are in full swing to exhibit sand sculptures of eminent personalities at Dasara Exhibition Center.

Over 134 workers are busy preparing the sculptures of the late Sandalwood actor Dr Puneeth Rajkumar and his parents Dr Rajkumar, Parvathamma Rajkumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some freedom fighters. Famous sand artist MN Gowri creates the sand sculptures.

Most of the works on the sand sculptures of Puneeth Rajkumar and his parents are almost complete and the workers have been exerting their efforts for more than a week.

Gowri has over seven years of sand sculpture experience and is probably the only female sand sculpture artist in India.

The sand sculptures are made at the Rev block. Kittel in the fairgrounds.

As it is the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, sand sculptures by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Dr BR Ambedkar are featured. A series of pillars and protective sheds were erected to protect the sand sculptures from rain and wind.

There are eight sand idols of Puneeth Rajkumar and they capture his cinematic journey from child artist to superstar. The most eye-catching of all the sculptures is that of Puneeth Rajkumar, who wears an army uniform and was designed to salute national heroes.

This particular image was taken from the actor’s latest film “James.” Also, a sculpture of a pigeon sitting on Puneeth’s shoulder is being created in a shed. “The army uniform sculpture is the most attractive sculpture and I’m sure many will echo my sentiments,” said Rashmi, a visitor.

The artists use M-sand for the sculptures and to make them attractive, spray paints will be used to capture the imagination of the viewers. The exhibition will start on September 26 and visitors can visit from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are priced at Rs. 30 for adults and Rs. 20 for children.
