Who is the best character in La Haute République? This is a very personal question, but it was asked of two writers from the official site Megan Crouse and Kelly Knox and they give their thoughts and the reasons why they chose who they chose.

It’s Bell Zettifar, says Megan Crouse

In the heyday of the Jedi, Star Wars: The High Republic brings many new characters, each one growing and changing as the series continues. The heroic Avar Kriss, the uncertain Imri Cantaros, the evil Lourna Dee and, of course, Geode (who doesn’t need to be introduced) are some of my favorites. But the one who best illustrates what it means to be a Jedi at the peak of the Order’s abilities is none other than Bell Zettifar.

An 18-year-old Padawan at the start of the series, he has a lifetime ahead of him and a wealth of experiences in his young life. In many ways, he’s a Jedi archetype: someone who wants to see the world and be the best version of himself that he can be, but also struggles with doubt and learns new skills. Bell loves being a Jedi, and that’s one of the things I love about him.

Sorry, but Vernestra Rwoh is the light of the Jedi, says Kelly Knox

Vernestra Rwoh stands out among the ranks of the Jedi Knights of the High Republic – and not just because she was one of the youngest Padawans to pass her trials! She may be a prodigy, but she is not perfect. If you’re looking for a stoic warrior who stands alone against the darkness of the galaxy, this isn’t Vernestra. It is just the opposite. And that’s what makes her great. Vernestra is supportive, sympathetic, terrible in flight, intelligent and tenacious. She shows us what Jedi of any age can and should be.

Mirialan Jedi Knight is just 16 when readers meet her in Justina Ireland’s Star Wars: The High Republic: A test of courage. The Force speaks to Vernestra in a dream, guiding her to transform her lightsaber blade into a luminous whip. Yes, she has a purple bladed lightsaber that transforms into a whip, and that’s not even the coolest thing about her. One of her first assignments, escorting a senator’s daughter, seems straightforward enough. But nothing is ever easy when you are a Jedi, is it?
