About the Chinese Language and Culture Program
The University of Nevada’s Reno STARTALK Chinese Program will run a one-year program open to middle and high school students (grades 7-12) in Nevada. The cost is free for all students and will offer a beginner level course for students who have no prior knowledge of Chinese, as well as a course for students at different skill levels. Classes will be offered both in-person (at Wooster High School, Reno, NV) and online (live, with teacher-student interaction in the target Chinese language). Pre- and post-camp activities will take place once a week with a 90-minute after-school instructional period in Spring 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024 (14 weeks per semester for three semesters with a total of 63 hours of instruction), with rolling registration.
The summer camp will last two weeks with 60 hours of instruction (June 19 to June 30, 2023, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and will only be offered in person on the NUR campus .
Throughout the program, students will engage in hands-on, learner-centered activities in the target language and interact with native Chinese speakers to gain authentic cultural experience and be motivated to continue studying Chinese at the next level.
